Becoming a Race Director Part 3

After 5 weeks of intensive work on the website, Al made some of the final touches last night and we launched it today. I'm still not 100% on a couple of the images and I need to go back in and add maps and fly-throughs of the course but all in all its pretty close to the finished article.

Its easy to underestimate just how much work it is building a page and making sure you've covered all areas. I've learned a lot in a month, especially about how complicated compiling pages can be.

I think it will be a while before we get people signing up officially but there's still plenty to do while thats all going on.

Great run tonight, loads of energy and ready to put in a couple of longer runs at the Gatliff 50km in a weeks time and at the Luton Marathon the week after. Early build up to Rocky Raccoon 100 miler again in Texas in early February.

  1. Hi James, just a note to say well done on the new races and website. Always good to see new races being developed, especial ultra trail races. Sadly the timing is bad for me (hoping to do UTMB next year) but if that falls through I'd definitely be up for the 50 or 100 miler.

  2. Hi James, I am from California, USA. My wife and I are interest the 100M run. I have 2 questions: 1. Is there easy way to pay entry fee for foreigner? 2. What is the option of lodging at Start / Finish line? Thank you.

  3. Hi Tim. Thank you its been a lot of work but hopefully will be worth it come race day. I had a crack at UTMB this year but clearly them abandoning it early on was a massive blow. I'm heading to Leadville this year instead. Hope you get a place but of course if you miss out I will do everything possible to make this a great substitute. All the best.

  4. Joe, We've had a couple of e mails requesting information from US runners already so you may not be alone! Wonderful that you are considering the race. To answer your questions: 1. You would need to get to your bank and ask them to make a cheque out in £ Sterling for the correct sum dependent on when you are looking at entering, currently £100 for the 100 miler. You would then need to post that cheque to Centurion Running Ltd, 55B Rosenau Road, United Kingdom, SW11 4QX and enclose your e mail address. 2. There are lots of options for accomodation which I'd be happy to e mail you about if you want to drop me a line at racedirector@centurionrunning.com. The website info is as follows:

Accomodation: There are plenty of options for accomodation in Farnham although no specific budget accomodation. In Farnham itself and within half a mile of the start point are the The Bush Hotel and the Bishops Table Hotel. Just outside of Farnham in the neighbouring town of Aldershot, by far the cheapest option would be to stay at the Premier Inn. You will need to either drive or arrange a taxi from the hotel to the start point at St Polycarps School, Farnham. Alternatively there are many smaller Bed and Breakfast options which can be found by typing Farnham Hotels into google search.

  5. James - too bad you couldn't make this one a point-to-point and end in Canterbury, which from a historical perspective would be pretty neat. But I also understand that a point-to-point would make for an even bigger logistical nightmare than organizing a 100-miler already is.

I'm a Colorado-based Brit (from Canterbury) who also has the bug for running silly distances. If you need help figuring out your Leadville trip next summer, drop me a line. I know the race and area well.
